YEAR 3 - Roche and Rufford

Hello, Year 3! We are Miss Davies and Miss Frier, your class teachers. We are passionate about creating an exciting education to ensure you have a love for learning. Miss Frier’s favourite subject is English, she cannot wait to read your newspaper articles. Miss Davies’s favourite subject is art, and she can’t wait to see Year 3 take inspiration from Gustav Klimt to create a sculpture of a canopic jar.

What We're Learning This Half Term

Mathematics: Money and Time

In maths, we'll be diving into our new topics of money and time. We will be looking at being able to add and subtract money as well as understand equivalent amounts. Get ready to master time as we build on previous knowledge and become experts. We will be able to tell the time in five-minute intervals. You will become an expert as you begin to build on prior knowledge.

English: Non-Chronological reports, Story Introductions and News Paper Reports

Our English lesson will take us on an exciting journey as we begin to create a non-chronological report all about the process of mummification as we dive into our Ancient Egypt Topic. We will then follow this writing with a story introduction as we begin to uncover Tutankhamun tomb. Finally, our newspaper report will build on our previous writing as we inform our audience of the discovery of Tutankhamun tomb.

Science: light

Science is all about light this term. We'll become scientists, as we investigate how light affects our eyes and body, we will learn how to protect ourselves against natural light sources. We will also begin to look at shadows and how this changes depending on how close you are to a light source. This topic includes a range of experiments.

Curriculum Focus: history - ancient egypt

In our curriculum sessions, we'll be diving into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt, we will begin our journey into this world by understand Ancient Egypt life and the social pyramid. We will also begin to look at the significance of the River Nile, Pyramids and Hieroglyphs. During this topic, we will be able to use our historical knowledge during our Ancient Egypt workshop at the end of this term.

PE: basketball and teamwork

PE will have two focus’ we will focus on basketball, the children will develop skills on a range of passes as well as learning how to move and defend in the game. The other PE sessions will focus on teamwork and a healthy life.

RE/PSHE: The World of Drugs and Christian Stories

During their RE lessons, they will be learning about Christianity and why Jesus makes a good teacher and is an inspirational person. During PSHE they will learn how to gain advice and guidance around legal and illegal harmful substances. They will also look at weighing up choices as the weigh up the reasons for and against risks.

art: Gustav klimt

In art we are going to be looking at the artist Gustav Klimt, as we create sculptures. The children will be creating a replica canopic jar. They will be using clay to create their sculpture and will be inspired by Gustav Klimt as they decorate their jar.

Homework: history - ancient egypt

History, Ancient Egypt homework, the children have a range of homework set for them on their homework menu. The children could build a pyramid or create a fact file around their new topic of Ancient Egypt or the children could create a dance to the song ‘ Walk like an Egyptian’. The children also have weekly maths and spelling homework.
