Bamburgh 10.10.16 - 14.10.16

Y5 are currently on a residential in Bamburgh.

Monday - Great first day.  Hartlepool was exciting on board the Trincomolee discovering life as a sailor.  The highlight of the day was the first view of Bamburgh castle as we drove alongside the coastline. It was a clear sky for the night walk.  Both the stars and lighthouses were twinkling in the distance. Hot chocolate before bedtime for some very sleepy children.  Looking forward to the hike to Seahouses tomorrow.

Tuesday - An adventure packed day today!  After a long walk  to Seahouses, lunch was eaten over looking the harbour.  The seagulls were trying their luck!  The brave few paddled in the sea - not for very long.  Rockpool discovery was a great success, finding a range of creatures from starfish to anemones.  Hiking back to Bamburgh, those with lots of energy were challenged by the sand dune hike with the reward at the end, 'sledging' down the dune.  Games night entertainment after tea before the VERY tired children went to bed.

Wednesday - A rainy day spent at Cragside.  Children really enjoyed exploring the Victorian house,  so much so we went back for second viewing in the afternoon!  Members of the public made complementary comments about the behaviour of the children!  Excellent at all times.
However the night took a 'dark turn'.  Thank goodness for glow sticks and candles as the power went out just before tea.  Atmospheric dining -Victorian style.  Quiz night went ahead as planned with the 'Bamburgh Brainboxes' claiming victory!

Thursday -

Last entry for the week....home tomorrow.

After much anticipation the day finally arrived where the children could enter Bamburgh Castle.  The legends and paintings came to life as they explored the rooms within.  All the children were entranced listening to the stories of Laidley Worm and the Frog in the Keep, Dorothy Forster and The Pink Lady.  After lunch, the children were excited re-enacting the Grace Darling rescue and discovering about why she was a famous Victorian heroine.  A 'snapshot in time' gave the children an opportunity to capture their experience in quiet contemplation in the sand dunes before the final goodbye - running down the sides of the 'sand bowl'. 'Manor's Got Talent' completed the evening with songs, dancing and comedy.Suitcases packed and ready to start the journey home tomorrow (open with care).
