YEAR 4 - Blenheim and Buckingham

Welcome to summer term! We are excited to welcome to Mrs. Hughes to our Year 4 Term. Mrs Hughes and Mr Hodgetts are looking forward to embarking on their learning journey Extreme Earth.

What We're Learning This Half-Term

Mathematics: money  and decimals

In maths we will continue to look at decimals and then move on to money ensuring that your children have a solid understanding of how to use money in the real world.

reading - the firework maker's daughter

In reading we will be reading ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and following the journey of Lila through the dense forest, along the roaring river and up the volcano on her quest to become a proper firework maker.

Science: digestive system and teeth

 We are really looking forward to teaching this terms science topic and learning all about the digestive system and teeth. We are fortunate enough to have a dentist come in to explain the importance of looking after our teeth.

We will also be hosting a stay and session where you can come along and learn all about how we digest food.

Curriculum Focus: geography - extreme earth

We will be learning all about how and why we have extreme events like earthquakes, tornados and tsunamis. We will be hosting a stay and erupt session where we will be creating our own volcanoes and causing them to erupt.

PE: basketball and leadership

This half-term we will be looking at the rules and skills used to play basketball. With Mrs. White we will be looking at leadership and how we can develop our confidence to lead activities and ensure that everyone is involved.

Creative Arts:  dt - Roman aqueducts

In DT we will be looking at the Roman invention of aqueducts and what makes them strong as well as withstand the tons of water that is constantly flowing through them. Once we have a good understanding of them we will be creating our own using materials that the children have selected.

Homework: mtc

My Maths and Spelling Shed will be set each week and be due a week from the day that they are set.
